Honeymooners Itinerary: Cairo - Nile Cruise - Aswan - Luxor - Cairo , Cairo City: It is the capital of Egypt and one of the largest cities in Africa and the Middle East, with a history spanning over 1000 years.
Cairo is renowned for its rich collection of historical sites, including Pharaonic, Coptic, and Islamic landmarks, which would require at least two full days to cover the major highlights.
The Giza Plateau: Situated on the outskirts of Cairo, the Giza Plateau is home to the Giza Necropolis from the Fourth Dynasty, built approximately 4500 years ago. This iconic site features the Great Pyramids of Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure, as well as the majestic Sphinx. The plateau encompasses cemeteries, a workers' village, and an industrial complex, making it Cairo's most popular attraction and drawing thousands of visitors annually.
The Pyramid of Cheops (Khufu): This pyramid is the oldest and largest among the Giza pyramids, standing at a height of 146 meters. It is the sole survivor of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
The Pyramid of Chephren (Khafre): As the second tallest and second largest pyramid at Giza, it serves as the tomb of the Fourth-Dynasty pharaoh Khafre, who reigned from approximately 2558 to 2532 BC.
The Pyramid of Menkaure (Mycerinus): This pyramid is the smallest of the three main pyramids at Giza. It is believed to have been constructed as the burial place of the Fourth Dynasty Egyptian Pharaoh Menkaure.
The Great Sphinx: Carved from a single piece of stone, the Sphinx is one of the most famous monuments in the world. It features the body of a lion and the face of a man, closely resembling King Kephren.
Museum of Egyptian Antiquities: Commonly known as the Egyptian Museum or the Cairo Museum, it houses an extensive collection of ancient Egyptian antiquities. With over 120,000 items, the museum showcases a representative selection of artifacts, while the remaining pieces are stored in its storerooms. The museum, constructed in 1901 by the Italian company Garozzo-Zaffarani and designed by French architect Marcel Dourgnon, stands as one of the largest museums in the region.
Philae Temple: Dedicated to the goddess Isis, the temple tells the famous Egyptian mythology of Isis, her resurrection of her beloved husband, the birth of her son Horus, and the mummification of Osiris after his death. The temple was relocated to Agilika Island after the construction of the High Dam to protect it from flooding. Originally built during the reign of Ptolemy II in Egypt's Greco-Roman period, the temple once had obelisks that were later moved to England.
The High Dam: Considered an engineering marvel, the High Dam is a rock-fill dam situated on the border between Egypt and Sudan. Its construction, which began in 1960 and concluded in 1968, aimed to protect Egypt from annual Nile floods. Standing at 111 meters in height and 3,830 meters in length, with a base width of 980 meters, the dam was officially inaugurated in 1971. Its spillway has a discharge capacity of 11,000 cubic meters per second.
The Kom Ombo Temple: This unique temple is dedicated to both the falcon god Horus and the crocodile god Sobek. Built by Ptolemy VI, the temple's design features duplicated courts, halls, sanctuaries, and rooms for each set of gods. The southern half of the temple is devoted to Sobek, the god of fertility and the creator of the world in ancient Egyptian religion, while the northern part is dedicated to Horus.
The Temple of Edfu (Temple of Horus): Located in Edfu, approximately 109 kilometers from Luxor, this temple is dedicated to Horus, the avenging son of Isis and Osiris. In ancient Greek documents, it was also referred to as "Apollopolis Magna" due to the Greeks associating Horus with their god Apollo. The temple remained exceptionally well-preserved as it was entirely buried under desert sands until its rediscovery in the 19th century.
The Valley of the Kings: Serving as the burial site for numerous Pharaonic kings from the 18th to the 20th dynasties, the Valley of the Kings is renowned for its royal tombs. Among the notable tombs are Tutankhamun's, where his treasures were discovered, as well as those of pharaohs such as Thutmose I, Thutmose III, Ramses VI, Amenhotep II, and Merneptah. During the visit, guests are usually allowed to explore three tombs based on the availability at the time.
The Temple of Queen Hatshepsut: Situated on the West Bank of the Nile, the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, also known as Deir El-Bahari Temple, serves as the mortuary temple of the beautiful Queen Hatshepsut, the first known female monarch who ruled for around two decades. She was the stepmother of Pharaoh Thutmose III.
The Colossi Statues of Memnon: Located on the West Bank of the Nile, these two colossal stone statues depict the Pharaoh Amenhotep III, who ruled during the 18th Dynasty around 1350 BC.
The expansive Temple of Karnak complex: Situated on the East Bank of the Nile, the Temple of Karnak is a vast open-air museum renowned for its grandeur. It was one of ancient Egypt's most ambitious building projects, comprising multiple temple buildings and covering an area of over 100 hectares.
The Temple of Luxor: Located in the heart of the city on the East Bank of the Nile, the Temple of Luxor is one of Egypt's magnificent temples. Its entrance, known as the first pylon, was built by Ramses II and features scenes of his military expeditions, including the victorious battle of Kadesh.
